I guess this is where I talk about the, "journey into the art of photography." Well, it all started with a high school photography teacher, Mandy Tucker, who pointed me in the right direction. Her class taught me the basics of photography; many of which I still keep in mind every time I release a shutter. Under her direction and very supportive parents, I pursued my interests in photography by attending the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) photography program in Rochester, NY. While the extreme (year round) winter weather of Upstate New York often brought the spirits down, the professors and the assignments given to me, distracted me enough to get through it. The care packages and cookies sent to me from my mother and grandmother sure helped as well... (Anyways... getting sidetracked...) R.I.T. As much as I disliked living in that particular part of the country, I can not deny that they (RIT Photography Department) gave me an enormous wealth of photographic knowledge. Those four years of tough class critiques and professors, helped me fine tune my own personal photographic style. Upon graduation in 2005 with a BFA in Advertising Photography in my back pocket, I high-tailed it back to beautiful, sunny, Southern California. I was finally back in my element; back to my beaches, the gridlocked freeway traffic and great Mexican food... (and bacon wrapped hot dogs from street vendors in LA.) Since then, and up to the current minute, I've been working at building a name for myself taking on as many editorial and advertising assignments as I can come across. I've honestly just been doing what I love to do... taking pictures. (...and bodyboarding.) See you in the water! -Mikey Tnasuttimonkol |
